Hydrogen fuel cells also already work or did you not bother to read the article? The difference is currently they are costly to build and the fuel cell technology isn't to a mass production state due to the use of platinum. Ignoring the cost of platinum for the moment, there simply isn't enough to use even if it were as inexpensive as tin or lead. Research in to HFC will be as beneficial, if not more so, then EVs as it will be able to replace an existing infrastructure and require less change in habits or drivers then EVs. Traditional gas stations could easily switch over to hydrogen stations. Changing them to charging stations is not only impractical, it's ludicrous. Also, the current power grid won't be able to tae the strain of plug-in EVs until there is substantial improvements to the infrastructure. EVs were a dumb idea in the 70s and early 80s and they are still a dumb idea now. That MIGHT improve but the technology has a lot longer to go then HFCs.

WSJ may as well be Fox News anymore. Same owner, same agenda. It's William Randolph Murdoch's paper. If the headline's big enough it makes the news big enough. (hence the caps).
The Ferrari sings FAR better than that, even though it was a Mercedes :(!

I have to fully disagree with a lot of what you say. There is no reason why everything you talk about - cost, fuel efficiency and alternative fuels can't be worked into F1, ALONG with faster. Heck, in many ways, in racing they go hand in hand.If I can make an engine that is just a big more fuel efficient than the competitor, that means less pit stops, thus results in a better chance to win. Same holds w/ alternative fuels. In the end the Sponsorships provide a very FINAL proving ground that can't be matched in CAD or anything else. Designs that are so cutting edge a computer has no clue, can be tested in reality and the results can be studied. In this end - could this be a big, short term money saver? Sure. But could it also cost Bridgestone a big opportunity to improve in the future and make even more money? Yes.?
This is specifically why anti-trust was created. The railroads bought the steel companies and competition suffered. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Antitrust_Act ..."The purpose of the act was to oppose the combination of entities that could potentially harm competition"

I think you mean to say: "I'll criticize his spelling because he is right and I just can't stand being wrong."And before you repeat your "advice", please note that I am no native english speaker and that I have already forgotten more about chemistry than you are likely to ever know.
