| I will agree that pathetic was over the top. Allow me to rephrase: The suggestion that this sort of thinking leads itself onto a slippery slope of not knowing where to drawn the line in terms of what age is too young is extremely far fetched. As I explained, the reason 80 is considered old today is because by that time the majority of people have degenerated quite significantly compared to when they were say 30. Perhaps in 100 years, being 80 will be like being 60 today. Your insult isn't appreciated and I won't get into a bitching match with you but I will point out your hypocrisy with a reply to your last sentence: I clearly stated that one of the main issues with legalising assisted suicide is the fact that depressed people would be at risk of ending their lives this way, something they would most likely not do if their judgment wasn't clouded by a temporary disease (in most cases). |

“Combination of factors.1) Unhealthy food, fast food, "cheap" food is generally very high in fat.2) Little exercises, in most other countries people walk a lot more but in the US you need a car to do pretty much anything. It's just not possible to walk to many of the places people do in many other countries.3) Portions. Our super sized McDonald's is delivered with about a half gallon of high fructose corn syrup.

Any girl named "Brenda" probably isn't worth being with anyway..
I would do it, but I would be constantly afraid of getting a hard-on.(not that it usually happens, but it would be my luck)!

I wonder when PETA will issue a statement against that dastardly eagle.?
The act of prostitution, in and of itself, is still victimless as it stands. Just like the act of using a sewing machine, in and of itself, is still victimless despite the existence of people that force others to sew for them. |

I totally agree with you on the writing for the FBI. It's like all of them simultaneously have to act as dumb as the dumbest everyman, and in other moments be products of decades of specialized training and intelligence. The second episode, when they're trying to convince their boss' boss that the event wasn't an accident, one of the FBI agents' first piece of evidence is. "It happened at exactly 10 o'clock on the dot. The odds of that are 1 in 3600." That's a ***** anecdote. It's not compelling evidence at all, and furthermore, 1 in 3600 odds are really not that high. You're an FBI agent, not an Obama Birther. Your job requires you to have ACTUAL EVIDENCE, and you somehow think you should lead with that!? No wonder they're threatening to cut off your funding.

Not entirely unusual in China (which is what these parents are, clearly). Only recently has there been any advocacy for mentally disabled people in China; traditionally they are treated more like animals. If they aren't good for the gene pool they aren't worth much of anything, is the thinking. It's getting better now, but old habits can be hard to break I guess. :-(

IMO the problems began in the '80s, when Reagan's administration increased fees ("not taxes!"). From that point on, corporations -- especially foreign corporations -- got the lion's share of patents. I want a return to a fee system that encourages inventors with Einstein hair to file patents in greater numbers (and I wouldn't mind higher fees for corporate patents to accomplish this). I urge anyone in/near DC to visit the PTO in person, it's quite a place...

My answer is yes, I live in the UK where we have a single payer system that doesn't discriminate on any prior conditions. You could have been a junkie with every disease under the sun and they would still treat you, you could be a billionaire and they would treat you, you could weigh 300 lbs and they would treat you, it doesn't matter. My original point was meant to be, the biggest problem with private sector health insurance is that they will discriminate based on prior conditions, and refuse to pay out due to any technicality, a public option in the USA wouldn't be allowed to do this, if you made insurance companies stop denying coverage and paying for costs then you wouldn't need a public option. |
