MacHG, not so much. The 3Gs came out a year after the 3G, not two. Therefore the 3Gs did not come out when the 3G's 2 year contracts were up. Hell, I still blazing the Internet on my 2G's Edge network and have a few months left in my original 2 year contact. I agree with you that the 4th Gen will not likely come out until the end of the first 3G contracts are up, but "this [did not] happen, roughly, with the 3Gs."
